Why are Blogs important in SEO ?

Blogs can be hosted on your own private server or you can use sites that allow you to create free blogs which will be hosted on the blog site server – for example blog.co.uk and wordpres.com. In this article when i refer to blog sites then i am referring to the many blog sites which allow you to create free hosted blogs.

These blog sites are used by millions of users all around the world – they get updated very frequently and the sites have earned much authority. You will usually find these blog sites with page rank 5+ –

These blog sites allow you to create your own blog – add your own posts with your backlinks – There are a number of benefits to this – firstly your backlinks that you add to your blog will become relevant due to the subject on which you have blogged about – secondly the page rank and authority of the sites domain holds value which will be filtered down to your blog – This is very valuable and has much affect – Not forgetting the amount of targeted traffic you can get through the blog internal searches. Finally the blog itself has a good chance to rank in the search engines and send targeted traffic.

The key to using these blog sites is to create a number of blogs – not only from one provider but from many – this will ensure c class ip diversity and unique backlinks. In short do follow backlinks get followed by google and authority will be filtered down to your site – this is the best kind of backlink to go for.

No follow backlinks have a special code on them telling the search engines not to pass authority to the backlink.

I would still recommend using no follow backlinks as they make your offsite seo look natural and they still hold some good value. I previously ran a test on No follow backlnks by using yahoo answers which only give no follow backlinks. the results were amazing and this is the reason why i would encourage all of my readers to still go for no follow backlinks especially when they are coming from high page rank domains.

Backlinks are a very big part of your search engine optimization process. They show the poplularity of your website and everytime a search engine robot finds itself on a website that has your backlink on it then the search engine robot will find its way to your website.

What are backlinks ? 

If you ask me then websites are like cities but on the net. A well developed city will have many roads, a port, airport(s) and different ways of getting in and out of the city. In the same way your website needs many ways to get in. On the internet everything is done through backlinks. So the more backlinks you have the more credit you get given by the search engines. 

A backlink is a link back to your website from another website. So for example if I link back to google.com from this website then this will be a backlink to google. 

How do I create a backlink ? 

Backlinks can be created in many ways. You can just type in your url like http://www.bigseotechniques.com – or you can add a backlink from an image like the advertising banners you get and once clicked it takes you to another site. 

Then there is the SEO WAY which is the anchor text linking back to your site. Now this is done by using some HTML however its very easy and as backlinking is such a massive part of SEO its a good idea to memmorise the formula. 

The reason anchor text backlinks are so useful is because we get to use a keyword to link back to our sites with. This is a very good way of telling search engines what your site is about and how other sites refer to yours. 

So if you wanted to link back to this site then you could refer back to the site as 'SEO Tips' or 'sarch engine optimisation'. When the search engine robots crawl your site and come to the backlink they will read whatever keyword you used to link to this site and follow it. The robots would then store the information and keep notes of what keywords other websites are using to link back to your site as. 

Now the trick in creating a backlink is a little HTML as mentioned above. It would be like this

If you type this in the HTML area of your site then it would look like this

All you need to do to create one for your site is to replace the url with your url and the keyword with whatever keyword you would like to use.

For those that are not aware about do follow backlinks then let me explain a little. 

In the world of Search engine optimisation we all know that backlinks are the key to improving your SERPS (search engine result pages) So if you want to rank higher on the search engines then you will want to concentrate on building your backlinks. In the past it was alot easier as you could go to any blog or forum and paste your backlink on there. The problem about this was that all the SEO agents would go to any blog or forum and start pasting links after links. The Search Engines didnt like this and it was very hard for them to know who to give credit to. 

So the search engines teamed up with blog providers such as wordpress and other blogging platforms with a resolution to this spamming process. They introduced something known as NO FOLLOW links. No follow links are created the same way as backlinks however the website that you will add your link to will automatically generate a special code before the link which will stop the search engine spiders from crawling the link.  So in actual fact its as if the link did not exist as far as the search engines were concerned. Or better still the search engines would still crawl the links but will not give the link any credit so it will not act like link juice. 

A dofollow link is the opposite to a no follow link. So as normal you will paste your link on a blog or forum and the link will get followed with the credit going to the website – so in other words this will act like link juice. 

How to tell a no follow from a do follow link

To spot a no follow link you will need to look into the source of the webpage. Look for links that have the ' rel="nofollow" atribute before them. This shows you that the website is following the no follow rule so if you was to paste a link onto this site then the link will not act like link juice. 

The way I do this myself is by using a firefox plugin – The plugins name is NoDoFollow – its a great plugin that saves me much time. All you need to do is go onto any webpage and right click anywehere on the page. Your menu box will appear and it will have an option to click NoDoFollow. Once it has been clicked then all of the links on the page will get color coded. If the links are colored red then that means the webpage is using the rel="nofollow" atribute but if the links appear grey then all links are do follow. 

Should we still post on no follow pages?

Posting on no follow sites can still give you much trafic from the site. I mean if you had a blog about DVD films for example and you went to a well used blog or forum which was using no follow links then its still worth your while pasting a link on the forum. Obviously try not to act spammy or your link will get removed. The reason its a good idea to do this is because your link will still be visable to all of the users using the site. So you will have the posibility to get traffic from this site. 

Another reason its still good to paste links on no follow sites is because not all search engines act the same way as google. I have personally seen a massive increase in my serps when I used no follow links. This tells us that no follow links still have some value in the SEO world. However all of the links that I had which were no follow were from relevent sites – I also believe this had a big part to pay. 

What should we concentrate most on No follow or Do Follow links?

Its without a doubt that myself and any other SEO agent would tell you to concentrate on Do follow links the most. The reason behind this is because you will get credit for the link by every search engine. The do follow links will deffinatly help you increase your SERPS where as No Follow links will more or less not help – Please note that no follow links can also help but more experiments are still needed to be taken in order to give an acurate answer. 

Do follow links act like what we call link juice – the more link juice you have the better chance you will have to increase in the SERPS. 

How can we find Do Follow Links?

You can find do follow links by searching through do follow blog directories – these can be found in any search engine – just type in do follow directory or something and you will get lists of directories which show do follow blogs – please note that many of the listings in these directories will need to be checked on a indivifual bases as some webmasters who use the rel="nofollow" atribute still submit their sites to these directories – Yes I know this is very annoying - 

Another way would be to just check every website you land on with the firefox extension NoDoFollow plugin 

I have a list of over 300 or so do follow sites that range from a page rank 3 to page rank 9. all of these websites give free do follow links. Linkwheel technique

Im not too sure how many readers have heard of the link wheel technique. For those who have then you will know what I am talking about and for those that havnt then let me explain.

A little while back about 7 months ago many Internet marketers where using a technique which they called the LINK WHEEL. This was basically using Web 2.0 accounts such as Hubpages, squidoo, blogger, wetpaint and the many more available on the Net.

The way this system was set up was by having the web 2.0 properties interlink with each other and your website. So you would have the HUbpage link to your money site and also blogger – you would then have your blogger link to your money site and wetpaint – the same applied for all of the other web 2.0 accounts you created which would form a circle or link wheel.

You would target 1 keyphrase for all of the web 2.0 properties you have created and the same keyphrase for your money site. This technique was very powerful which would allow you multiple page 1 listngs for your money site and also your web 2.o properties which you created.

The web 2.0 properties would also get bookmarked and backlink to make them more powerful. It wasnt very long before Google figured out the technique due to the footprint it created and started to devalue them.

But not all has been lost.

There is another way to use this technique making it harder to trace the footprint.

I like to call it the 3d link wheel. Its using the same concept in the sense that you are still using the web 2.0 properties but this time in tiers. So you will create about 4 web 2.0 properties linking back to your site only as tier 1. You will then create another set of web 2.0 properties linking back to your first tier web 2.0 properties however this time 2 outbound links on the 2nd tier web 2.0 properties.

so if for example for tier 1 we used Blogger – wetpaint – hubpages and squidoo and for tier 2 we used quizilla – msn spaces – live journal and wordpress Then you will link all tier one accounts to your money site and tier 2 accounts will be linked to your tier 1 sites 2 at a time -

so you might have wordpress linking to blogger and hubpages. Quizilla linking to squidoo and wetpaint Msn spaces linking to blogger and squidoo and so on You will then backlink all of the web 2. 0 properties and keep creating more tiers. This ensures that authority of these sites are being passed down to other authoritative sites which then pass down the authority to your site.

If you do this then you will see your web 2.0 accounts and your website ranking very high in the search engines. To make it a little more clearer I have created a diagram below

Many people practising seo manage to get their websites to page 1 of google only to find it crawls down and loses its rankings after a week or so, from page 1 to page 2 and so on. They then go on a backlinking quest and give the site another boost, only to be faced by the same issues over and over again. Now many people encounter this problem and its very frustrating. There are a few things we can do to help our rankings maintain their positions in the search egines and gain website stability.

• 1.Frequently work on your offsite optimisation(optimization)
• 2.use a LSI structured anchor text backlinking method – even include backlinks without anchor text to ensure everything looks natural
• 3.use a variety of backlinking sources – as noted at the bottom of the article
• 4.update your website frequently
• 5.build backlinks to your backlinks and make them rank in the search engines – they will also become stronger backlinks passing better authority to your site.

1. Its self explanatory – work on your offsite optimisation frequently. Dont do it once a week or once every 2 weeks – try and do it about 3 times a week – this makes it easy and will stop the sudden dropping of rankings. 2. When we build our backlinks its a very good idea to use our keywords as anchor text.- in the same way that we do our onsite optimisation by using a LSI (latent semantic indexing) structure, we should do the same with our anchor text when backlinking – What this means is that we should use different variations of our keywords as the anchor text – in the same way that we do it with our onsite optimisation when laying out our text. This will ensure we rank for all of our keywords and will look natural – not spammy. Its also a good idea to link back to your webpages by using your url only. The reason for this is because if your website was pulled up for a human review and they went through all of your backlinks and found that every single one was a anchor text with more or less the same keyword used as the anchor text then this would look spammy and un-natural. If you do it the LSI anchor text way while using your url alone at times then this would not happen. 3. Get backlinks from a variety of sources such as

• article directories
• blogs
• forums
• web 2.0 sites
• social networking sites
• bookmarks
• article directories
• video directory sites
• rss aggregator sites
• software sites
• profile backlinks

4. Update your website frequently – Google and major search engines love new contents – and we all know that on the internet contents is king.Try and update your site about 2-3 times a week – the more you can update the better. 5. When you publish an article or create a web 2.0 site such as a squidoo lens then build backlinks to them also – They will also start to rank in the search engines and will become a more powerful backlink with better value for your main site. The key thing to remember in any seo campaign is that it needs good organisation and a strong strategy plan. While you work on your SEO your competitors also work on their own.
